When we met Amy Devan a few months ago at a trade show on the far
west side of midtown, we immediately noticed the eastern influences in
her budding LA/NYC based brand Naveda. She is hot off her first showing
at New York Fashion Week F/W ’14 and is busy promoting her brand
collecting one success after another.
Her cultural mindset is evident in her pieces which all have a modern aesthetic while still paying tribute to her Eastern roots with gilded embellishments, intricate beading and delicate fabrics from India. Naveda’s mission is to tie together the cultural, historical and modern into a piece that will make you feel like you’ve just got back from travelling the world.

Amy began her career in marketing and sales
completing her MBA in 2006, but her passion for design burned strongly
so she decided to quit her job make a career switch to launch her own
line. As an American born Indian, she traveled back to India often
during her years and when she launched her line, she went back to the
land of her ancestor’s to find inspiration and study their design
aesthetic. After attending Parson’s New School For Design, she had all
the tools necessary
“Each region
of India is recognized for a different type of craftsmanship or
embroidery,” says Devan on her website.”Through Naveda, I want to pay
tribute to the immensely talented artisans and experts of such
handwork.” Photo: Naveda
