I Did Not Shun Workers' Debate- Kwara State Governor

Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has denied reports in a section of the media that he shunned a debate organised by the State Joint Labor Congress yesterday in Ilorin.
Speaking through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Dr. Muyideen Akorede, Governor Ahmed said on the contrary he was unable to participate in the debate due to his attendance at the National Council of State meeting which held in Abuja on Thursday.
Governor Ahmed said he informed the Chairman of the state council of Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) Comrade Umar Farouk of his inability to attend the event before his departure for Abuja to attend the crucial meeting, which discussed vital issues of national interest.

He commended Kwara for the organizing the debate as part of their contribution to the development of the nation’s democracy, adding that he continues to hold the leadership and membership of the state labor congress in high esteem as partners in development.

Governor Ahmed expressed a willingness to engage with the workers as part of a series of stakeholder meetings he intends to hold to deepen his administration’s engagement with the public in line with its commitment to transparency and accountability to the people.

Why I Chose To Start A Record Label- Laide Bakare

New mom, Laide Bakare who has become a mom for the 3rd time visited hiptv studio recently where she hinted that she attended New York film academy while away in the States. Laide also used the opportunity to talk about how the academy made her love music, something she was never interested in. Hear her;

“It’s an inspiration from New York film academy. When I was studying film making, I got to appreciate and understand music more than ever. Because I have been in the industry for so long and it has been movies all the way, am not a music person but right there at the New York movie academy I got to study a whole lot about music and I tend to appreciate music. Looking back here in Nigeria, there are a lot of young talent who are willing to showcase what they have and they don’t really have platform for it because most record labels are like cabals it’s difficult to break in so am gonna take up the challenge and establish a record label for upcoming talents and sell them to the whole world”.

Luis Suarez should be banned for the rest of the World Cup after appearing to bite Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini

Luis Suarez should not be allowed to kick another ball in this World Cup tournament.

Referee Marco Rodriguez clearly missed the coming together of Suarez and Italian Giorgio Chiellini and replays are clear enough to me for the Uruguayan to be charged by FIFA's disciplinary panel.
FIFA do not consult referees with regard to charging players retrospectively as they accept that if no action is taken the officials have missed the incident.

Fake Glo Agent Arrested In Gombe

A Justice of the Federal High Court, Gombe, today sentenced one Khalil Ahmed Bappa, 29, who claims to be a GLO agent to 24 months imprisonment for fraudulently extorting goods and money worth N267, 000 from a female student of Bayero University, Kano, Yusra Ali Babakusa, with assurances of making her a Glo Ambassador.
Khalil met Yusra in 2012 and promised he would make her a Glo ambassador through his contacts at the communications company, but trouble started when Khalil gave Yusra a said date to get ready for Lagos. He told her, her name had been selected and they will both need to head for Glo’s Lagos headquarters office. He also told her the company had made arrangements for her accommodation and will also be paying for her return flight ticket.

When the day came, Yusra kept calling him, but Khalil refused to pick his calls and later switched off his phone. That was when she sensed she was in trouble and she must have been duped. She later reported to the police who tracked Khalil down and charged him to court.

He was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment without an option of fine on each of the two counts. The court also ordered the convict to reimburse his victim before the completion of his jail term.
